The Mount Lebanon Historical Society offers two walking tours and the first-ever bus tour of Mt. Lebanon’s architecturally significant neighborhoods this summer.

“Neighborhoods & the National Register,” will be led by Pat Calvelo, a former Mt. Lebanon Preservation Board member. This tour focuses on Mt. Lebanon’s most important architectural highlights and covers the history of the Virginia Manor, Mission Hills and Beverly Heights. The tour also will explain why sections of Mt. Lebanon qualify for National Register of Historic Places designation. Buses depart from the Mt. Lebanon History Center. The tour is offered at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on June 26, and is $20 for Historical Society members, $30 for non-members.

“Commerce & Architecture,” a walking tour of Washington Road, explores the architecture and history of Mt. Lebanon’s largest commercial district and includes the Municipal Building’s Art Deco lobby. The tour is offered at 10 a.m. Aug. 16, beginning at the History Center. Tickets are $5 for Historical Society members and $10 for non-members.

“Saints & Stained Glass” explores two of Mt. Lebanon’s most historic churches – St. Bernard’s and Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian. The 90-minute tour covers the history of both churches with a focus on the stained glass windows. The tour is offered at 6 p.m. July 22. Tickets are $5 for Historical Society members and $10 for non-members. Meet in front of Saint Bernard’s.

For all tours, space is limited. Order tickets online at lebohistory.org or mail checks to HSMTL, 200 Lebanon Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15228. No exchanges or refunds. Email questions to cready@gmail.com. Tickets for the bus tour must be purchased by June 10. If you mail a check, indicate which tour time (5:30 or 7:30) you prefer. Six prizes, three to each group, will be awarded with first place winners receiving $1,000 in cash, second place $500 and third place $250. The contest identifies sites, which PRC then targets for clean up through local action.
