(PIX) Bruce Edward Hackett of Bethel Park reaffirmed his oath of office in a promotion ceremony on Feb. 23 at Soldiers and Sailors Hall to the rank of brigadier general, held in the presence of his family, friends, colleagues and soldiers from the 78th Training Division, 316th Expeditionary Sustainment Command and various units from his past three decades of service.

With his promotion, Hackett is assigned as the commander of the 78th Training Division (Operations) at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., where his organization is responsible for planning and executing the Army Reserve’s Combat Support Training Program. One of the major missions in 2014 for the 78th is conducting two major winter exercises for a collective training audience of nearly 6,000 soldiers.

Throughout his career, Hackett has held many positions, including deploying to Desert Storm in 1991 with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kuwait Emergency Recovery Office, to conduct damage assessment to critical infrastructure in war-torn Kuwait, a combat tour as the engineer battalion commander during Operation Iraqi Freedom III from 2004-2005 in Iraq, and as the deputy commanding officer of the 316th ESC in support of Theater Sustainment Operations for the U.S. Central Command in Kuwait during Operation Enduring Freedom from 2012-2013.

Hackett graduated from Indiana State University in 1985 with a bachelor of science degree in construction technology and was commissioned as a second lieutenant through ROTC in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Hackett, who earned his second master’s degree in leadership and business ethics from Duquesne University, lives in Bethel Park with his wife. The couple has two grown children, Kristen and Kraig.
