Silver for Seton-La Salle boys

Seton-La Salle’s bid for its first PIAA boys’ basketball title in 25 years clanked off the back of the rim during the waning seconds of the Class AA championship game as Constitution (28-5) escape with the 61-59 victory and the gold medals at the Giant Center in Hershey.
After Levi Masua buried a 3-pointer from the right wing to knot the contest, 59-59, with 1:03 remaining, the Generals knocked down two free throws with 34 and 8.3 seconds to edge ahead. With time running out, Masua attempted the same shot from the same spot but it failed to fall.
Masua was 2-for-4 from beyond the arc and 7-for-10 on his field goal attempts and led the Rebels in points with 19. He was 3-for-3 from the line. Masua also pulled in 11 rebounds for SLS, which finished 29-2 overall.
Dale Clancy and Ryan Norkus followed Masua in double digits, firing in 16 and 12 tallies. Malik White, who finished with six points, also grabbed 11 rebounds before fouling out with under a minute to play. Christian DelGreco supplied four points and Cletus Helton finished with two.
The game was close throughout as SLS trailed Constitution, 10-9, after one frame and 27-24, at halftime. The Rebels rallied to take their largest lead, 34-29, thanks to a 10-2 run to start the second half.
However, the Generals erased that margin and knotted the contest, 43-43, by the end of the third quarter. Constitution then opened up a 54-45 advantage after Ahmad Gilbert buried a 3-point shot with 4:59 to play. Gilbert finished with a team-high 19 points. He also hauled in 14 rebounds and swiped two passes.
On Clancy’s 3-pointer and free throws, Masua’s seven points and Norkus’ four points, SLS rallied to tie the game. But the Generals sealed the deal at the charity stripe. They were 7 of 10 in the final frame.
Neither team shot well from the line or the field. Constitution made 22 of 56 shots from the field for a shooting percentage of 39.3. The Generals were 15 of 24 from the charity stripe for a 62.5 percentage. SLS was 20 of 51 from the field (39.2 percent) and 15 of 23 from the line (65.2 percent).
Members of the SLS squad also included: Nico Popa, John Marzina, Dalaun Samuels, Thomas Rizza, David Boehme, Alec Mastovich, Quincy Leonard, Andrew Rodgers, Nalon Abbiatici, Adam Turzak and William O’Malley.
