Free dance lessons postponed due to lack of interest

1 min read

When the dance moves became somewhat offense to a member of the Peters Township School Board, William Merrell, who was acting as a chaperone at a recent dance in the high school, he broached the subject at the next board meeting, telling the other eight members and the administration that he had contacted the local Arthur Murray Studio.

Free lessons were offered to the students who wished to learn a more refined way to dance.

However, only two students, both girls and sisters, signed up for the class that was set for 11 a.m. March 22. That class was canceled for a lack of interest.

A spokesman for the dance studio at 3328 Washington Road, McMurray, said the studio would prefer to have 10 to 20 students in the class. The free lesson will be rescheduled if more students show interest.

The dance, called the Snow Ball, was at the high school and was sponsored by the cheerleading association. The dance was not school sponsored.

When the dancing became inappropriate, the music was switched to more classical tunes, students were told they could leave the dance, and parents were notified students could be picked up early.
