Hershey semisweet for Seton-La Salle
Giavanna Facchiano, Shaunay Edmonds and Nicolete Newman flash the No. 1 sign after beating Neumann-Goretti, 58-50, in the PIAA Class AA final. Edmonds scored nine points while Newman pumped in a game-high 17 tallies. Newman was 6 of 6 from the line and Cassidy Walsh was 4 of 4 as the Lady Rebels sealed their third state title in school history with a 10-for-10 showing from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter.
Levi Masua reacts after his 3-point attempt to win a state title for Seton-La Salle hit the back of the rim and failed to fall in the last seconds of the PIAA final against Constitution. Masua had made the same shot from the same spot to tie the contest, 50-50, with 1:03 to play, but the Generals connected on free throws by Akeem King and Kimar Williams with 34 and 8.3 seconds remaining to seal a 61-59 victory over the Rebels.
Levi Masua battles Ahmad Gilbert for the basketball. Both Masua and Gilbert led their teams with 19 points. Masua was 7 of 10 from the field and 3 of 3 from the line. He buried 2 of 4 from 3-point range, including the equalizer with 63 seconds to play. Masua also grabbed 11 rebounds as did his teammate Malik White but Gilbert managed 14 boards.
Seton-La Salle forward Morgan Henderson attempts to control a pass inside the paint as two Neumann-Goretti defenders converge upon her. In a reserve role, Henderson scored three points and grabbed four rebounds to help the Rebels win their second state banner in three seasons.
Nicolete Newman drives to the basket. The senior guard helped stake SLS to a 37-23 advantage but the Saints used a 22-7 run to take a lead, 45-44, with 5:27 to play. Her free throw shooting, 6-of-6 down the stretch, put the Lady Rebels back in the lead for good with under 79 seconds to play. Newman finished with 19 points. Cassidy Walsh, Yacine Diop and Shaunay Edmonds followed with 11, 10 and nine markers.

Yacine Diop drives past Stephanie Brown on the way to scoring two of her 10 points. The senior also gathered up 24 rebounds and blocked six shots for the Lady Rebels, who finished 27-4 overall.
S eton-La Salle fell two points short of becoming only the third school from the WPIAL to sweep the boys and girls PIAA titles in the same year, when one day after the Lady Rebels won the gold, 58-50, against Neumann-Goretti, the boys’ dropped a 61-59 decision at the buzzer to Constitution in the Class AA state championship game played at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pa.
The boys finished 29-1 when the Generals scored two free throws with 34 and 8.3 seconds to play, while the girls opened up as much as a 14-point lead before weathering a fierce comeback by the Saints to post the victory.
Levi Masua (19), Dale Clancy (12) and Ryan Norkus (12) all scored in double figures for the SLS boys while Nicolete Newman, Cassiday Walsh and Yacine Diop paced the girls with 17, 11 and 10 tallies.
