Bethel Park High School will host a free College Information Night for all sophomore and junior students and their parents from 6:30-8:30 p.m. March 27 in the high school auditorium.
Speaking and answering questions that evening will be Barry Duerr, associate director of admissions at the University of Pittsburgh, and Michael Rose, director of admissions at Community College of Allegheny County.
The 2014 Drive to Stay Alive program, presented to teens ages 16-18 in Washington and Allegheny counties, will take place March 29 at Consol Energy Park in Washington.
Defensive driving skills instruction will include swerving to avoid collisions, braking effectively, recovering a skidding vehicle and hazardous road conditions. The program also addresses use of cell phones behind the wheel.

The Giant Oaks Garden Club awards a $1,000 scholarship each year to a high school senior entering into an environmental field of study or a field of biology (other than the medical field). High school guidance counselors have the scholarship packets. For more information, call Cathy Rager at 412 653-1988. Deadline to apply is April 1.
La Roche College will host an undergraduate open house for high school students and their families on from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. April 5 at the main campus in the North Hills. A complimentary breakfast and lunch are included.

The Allegheny County Health Department is sponsoring its 15th annual environmental poster contest, “Travel Green, Travel Clean!” for students in grades 6-8. Students are asked to depict how they can help keep the environment clean by “traveling green,” and how they can encourage family and friends to help cut down on pollution.
Deadline for entries is April 11.

The South Fayette Township’s Little Green Machine (LGM) Marching participated in Allegheny County’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and has once again been awarded The County Executive’s Award (Best Band from Allegheny County).
Marching units were judged on uniforms, originality, general effect and marching skills. Bands are judged on music, marching and visual appeal.
LGM is led by Eryn Carranza, director, and Kevin Maurer, assistant director.
