Pittsburgh Public Theater’s Masterpiece Season continues with George Bernard Shaw’s sparkling comedy, “Candida.” Directed by Ted Pappas, “Candida” runs through May 18 at the O’Reilly Theater in the Cultural District.

In “Candida,” Reverend Morell is a socialist reformer and his intelligent wife, Candida, manages their London vicarage. When idealistic young poet Eugent Marchbanks visits, he is infatuated with the beautiful Candida and hopes to disrupt the couple’s domestic order. In this romantic tug of war, she must decide what love really means.

The Old Schoolhouse Players “Broadway in the Country” will present the musical “Lucky Stiff” in the Bud Allison Memorial auditorium in the Mt. Pleasant Twp. Community Center, Hickory.

Directed by Marcus Muzopappa with musical direction by Ruth Ann Fox, “Lucky Stiff” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. May 16 and 17, with a 3 p.m. matinee May 18.

The Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra continues its theme of “Travel the World in Music” with a celebration of Irish and Serbian music concert, 7:30 p.m. May 17 at the Upper St. Clair High School Theater.

The Irish portion of the concert features PCO concertmaster Jennifer Sternick performing Irish Rhapsody no. 6 by Charles Villiers Stanford. In addition, the PCO will entertain you with the delightful Irish Suite by Leroy Anderson which is based on Irish folk songs.

For the Serbian music, Milutin Lazich, bass, will sing Mars Na Drinu by Stanislav Binicki and Lem Edim by Stevan Mokranjac. Natasha Lazich, mezzo-soprano, will sing the traditional Stojanke, Bela Vranjanke. The orchestra also will present Kosovski Mozaik written by Music Director Warren Davidson.

The historic Hollywood Theater of Dormont continues its Guest Programmer Series with actress Gillian Jacobs, who has selected her favorite films to be viewed on May 16 at the Hollywood Theater.

Jacobs has chosen “Gardens of the Night,” a 2008 drama the actress starred in with John Malkovich, which will screen at 7:30 p.m., and “Vagabond,” a 1985 French drama about a young women whose final weeks of life are traced after she’s found frozen in a ditch, which screens at 10 p.m. Tickets are $8 or $6 for seniors or students.

A Mt. Lebanon native, Jacobs is a regular on the NBC hit sitcom “Community,” and continues to build her film resume with titles like “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World,” “Bad Milo!” and “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.”

Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra will present Dmitri’s 10th at 4 p.m. May 17 at Heinz Hall.

Bright Night: A Larimer Light Festival, a PopUp Event hosted by Leadership Development Initiative XXI, a program of Leadership Pittsburgh Inc., will take place May 17 on Larimer Avenue between Auburn and Meadow streets.

Activities will begin at 6 p.m. with a Laser Light Show following at 8:30 p.m.

The event will feature Pittsburgh Car Club’s top line up of cars, Interactive STEM exhibits from Carnegie Library, gourmet taco’s from Pittsburgh Taco Truck, free food samples from Pittsburgh Food Revolution, live local musical entertainment and Larimer “Entryway” installation

Horror Realm’s Summer of Scares events program kicks off with the Horror Realm Film Festival, May 22-25 at the Hollywood Theater in Dormont. The mission of the festival is to provide an affordable opportunity for filmmakers in the horror genre to have their films evaluated by a qualified board of judges, have their work viewed by fans, compete for awards, increase their film’s visibility and possibly find distribution for their film.
