South Fayette bans electronic signs
Commissioners in South Fayette voted 3-0 to ban electronic signs and LED message boards in the township. Board members Jessica Cardillo and Todd Miller were absent from the meeting.
Electronic signs in place prior to the ordinance being enacted will be grandfathered in, said Township Manager Ryan Eggleston.
“This just applies to future ones,” he said. Eggleston said South Fayette’s ordinance was modeled on a similar ordinance in Upper St. Clair, which also bans LED signs.
• The board approved the contract for the township’s 2014 summer paving program in the amount not to exceed $288,000. The low bidder for the project was Peter J. Caruso and Sons.
• The board voted to purchase a used street sweeper in the amount of $40,000, which was budgeted for in the 2014 capital budget.
• The board approved the sale of two vehicles, a 1994 Ford truck for $827 and a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria for $2,700.
• Eggleston announced that Nancy Degenhardt was hired as the township’s new finance director. She replaces Marian Abel, who retired this year. “We’re very excited to have her on board,” Eggleston said.
• The board voted to declare the week of June 8-14 Childhood Cancer Awareness Week.
• The next board of commissioners meeting will be a combined workshop and voting meeting, and will be held at 7:30 p.m. June 11.
