As a resident of Peters Township, I feel privileged to have many services provided to homeowners, but I do not understand why the collection of leaves, in paper bags for recycling, cannot be started earlier in the month of October. Why must we wait until the last week of October?

The trees do not wait to release their leaves during the fourth week of October. We, therefore, are forced to collect them, place them in plastic garbage bags and have them hauled to the landfill with the rest of the garbage. Leaves placed in paper bags for recycling cannot be stored in the garage, as they become a fire hazard, or on the driveway to be rained on and torn.

If we really care about disposing of leaves in a proper manner, this policy of waiting until the fourth week of October to begin collection must change. Collection of leaves placed in paper bags should coincide with when the leaves are falling and being collected by residents.
