A 27-year-old Upper St. Clair man was fatally shot early Nov. 1 in his Myrna Drive home and his cousin remains in the Allegheny County Jail without bond charged with homicide, township police said.

Joshua Poremski died after police said his cousin, Stephanie Munizza, 28, of Maryland Heights, Mo., shot him at about 4 a.m.

Police said Munizza and Poremski were talking about Munizza obtaining a concealed carry permit for a weapon and Poremski offered her his weapon. According to police, witnesses said she held the weapon with two hands and pointed it at him. He asked her whether she would be able to shoot someone and the gun went off, police said.

Attorney David Shrager said his client’s family doesn’t want to see her charged. “This was an accident, a tragedy, but not a crime. We don’t need to add to this, to both families’ pain that they want to see her out of jail.”

Munizza faces a preliminary hearing on Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. at city court in Pittsburgh.
