Kenny Garrett Quintet to play New Hazlett Theater
Dec. 13
Kenny Garrett Quintet
As part of its Alto Madness Jazz Series, the Kente Arts Alliance will present the Kenny Garrett Quintet at 8 p.m. Dec. 13 at the New Hazlett Theater on the North Side.
Over the course of a stellar career that has spanned more than 30 years, Grammy-award winning saxophonist Kenny Garrett has become the preeminent alto saxophonist of his generation. From his first gig with the Duke Ellington Orchestra (led by Mercer Ellington) through his time spent with musicians such as Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers and Miles Davis, Garrett has always brought a vigorous yet melodic, and truly distinctive, alto saxophone sound to each musical situation. In his latest Mack Avenue Records release, Grammy-nominated album “Pushing the World Away,” Garrett had to literally push away a steady flow of distractions to get to the inner core of the album, shifting priorities in his schedule and diving deep into the essence of the music.
General admission tickets are $25-$50 and are available online at www.showclix.com or by calling 1-888-71-TICKETS.
