Week of Oct. 15
On August 23, Philip William Koenig was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps at Pittsburgh’s Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall. Lt. Koenig is the son of Capt. Christopher W. Koenig, Sr., USMC (RET) and Janet A. Koenig, both of Venetia. Lt. Koenig is a 2010 graduate of Peters Township High School and a 2014 graduate of Duquesne University. Lt. Koenig was administered the Oath of Office by his father and had his lieutenants bars pinned on by his uncles, Lt. Col. Lawrence W. Koenig, USMC (RET) and Lt. Col. Jeffrey W. Koenig, USMC (RET). Lt. Koenig will report to the Marine Corps Basic School in April of 2015.
James G. Walnoha has enrolled in the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. Upon graduation and completion of ROTC Military Science courses at the host university, the cadet receives a bachelor’s degree and a commission of second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Walnoha is the son of Jim G. Walnoha of Pittsburgh and a graduate of Upper St. Clair High School.
