Bob’s Diner’s newest Upper St. Clair location a breakfast destination
In this age of constant activity, it becomes harder to find time to create substantial meals for oneself. Some people turn to diners to get good food without having to put in a lot of time, energy and money. Bob’s Diner, a humble diner attempting to emulate the owner’s childhood experiences, has added a fourth location at 1870 Painters Run Road in Upper St. Clair. Other locations are in Carnegie, Imperial and Kennedy Township.
The first thing I noticed about Bob’s Diner was its cleanliness. Everything looks like it’s been carefully maintained, including the bathrooms. You can sit at tables, booths or at a bar. The tables are rather close together, so there might be issues with one’s privacy if the diner is crowded.
As for the food itself, the menu is very expansive. I would almost say that it’s too expansive. The menu is so full of text that there is barely any room for pictures on the layout. You can only go off of the descriptions of the food, and it all sounds so good that it’s hard to decide. The lunch is good overall. Bob’s Big Fried Fish Sandwich in particular got rave reviews within my family. While lunch is just standard diner food done well, breakfast is where Bob’s diner really shines. Any classic breakfast food you can think of is available in multiple variations, and it’s all incredible. I tried the banana stuffed French toast, which was exactly what the name implies and incredibly tasty. The “My Dad’s Favorite” is an amalgamation of many of the available items – two eggs, a pancake, bacon, sausage and toast. The “Double Dad’s” is the same thing, but with double the amount of the items. Bob’s Original Mixed Grill was an omelet with homefries, onions, green peppers, sausage, bacon, ham and cheese – plus an order of toast – which also got high marks.
The service is easily the best part about the diner. Not only is the staff helpful, friendly and skilled, there isn’t a long wait time compared to many other establishments. Your order arrives quickly. The staff is glad to answer any questions you might have. By far the most impressive thing that happened in my two visits was Bob himself coming to the diner to make sure that everything was okay and having a chat with each customer. It impressed me to see that Bob cares enough about his customers and the quality of his food that he personally makes sure everything meets his own standards.
Overall, I would recommend Bob’s Diner to anyone who wishes to get a taste of classic food with good atmosphere and service. The full menu as well as other information can be found at www.eatatbobsdiner.com.
