A Literary Evening with Simon Winchester
Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures announces the appearance of historian Simon Winchester at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 6 in the Carnegie Music Hall, Oakland. Winchester’s lecture is the second in the 2014-15 season of Literary Evenings, Monday Night Lecture Series. Doors open at 6:30.
Simon Winchester is The New York Times bestselling author of more than 20 non-fiction titles, including “Atlantic,” “The Professor and the Madman” and “The Man Who Loved China.”
Winchester’s career as a writer, journalist and broadcaster took him on adventures across the globe. British by birth, in 2011, he became a naturalized American citizen. His talk on Oct. 6 will focus on his life, travels and on his newest book, “The Men Who United the States.” Winchester used the five classical elements – wood, earth, water, fire and metal – to frame the entertaining history that charts the contributions of America’s innovators, thinkers and explorers who helped to unite many states into one nation.
Tickets at $15-$35 are available at pittsburghlectures.org, by phone at 412-622-8866, or at the Carnegie Music Hall Box Office on the night of the program.
