Accused Alex Hribal in Franklin Regional High School stabbing not being housed in Upper St. Clair
Alex Hribal, the 16-year-old accused in the stabbing incident April 9 at Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville, will not be housed at Southwood Psychiatric Hospital in Upper St. Clair – at least not yet.
Various news sources reported Sept. 25 that Hribal would be kept for evaluation at the psychiatric hospital on Boyce Plaza Road following a hearing and order issued by the Allegheny County courts.
However, Upper St. Clair Township Police Chief Douglas Burkholder said Sept. 29 that Hribal would not be transferred to the center.
Burkholder said he spoke to the director of Southwood the morning of Sept. 29 and was told the court rescinded the initial order.
A telephone call Sept. 29 to Hribal’s attorney, Patrick Thomassey, was not returned. Hribal is accused of stabbing or injuring 20 students and one adult. All survived.
A hearing was held Sept. 25 in the Court of Common Pleas, Allegheny County, during which the defense’s request for transfer to a mental health treatment center was granted.
Burkholder said he was not contacted regarding Hribal’s potential transfer to Southwood, and Burkhold said, the director of the facility said he was also not contacted by the courts to discuss Hribal’s treatment or expected length of stay.
