Tips to stay organized in school

By Julianna Chen 2 min read

With a little over a month into the new school year, students should be settled in and adjusting to class schedules and homework. However, it is important to stay organized throughout the year. Here are a few tips:

• Write down and organize your schedule by class, activity and time on a piece of paper, and keep it where you can see it – one copy for each of your binders and one for your locker is a great plan. With a schedule close at hand, you’ll always know where you need to be and when.

• Use your planner. It’s an important tool for recording and keeping track of homework assignments and reminders. You can also use your planner as a checklist after you’ve finished your homework, to make sure you’ve done everything needed.

• Clean out your locker, binders and bags periodically. It’s hard to find what you need when your backpack or binder is a mess. Every month or so, recycle old papers (after you check with your teacher). Empty out your backpack. Have a locker cleanout and get rid of junk that may be sitting at the bottom of your shelves. When everything is tidied up, you’ll have a much easier time finding things.

• Put labeled dividers in your binders. You can keep all your tests, homework, projects and studying materials separated neatly.

• If you use folders instead of binders, keep one side of the folder reserved for things to bring home and one side for stay-at-school items.

• If you use a computer to type assignments, create folders for schoolwork categorized by subject, and save your documents to the appropriate folder. No more wasting time searching through your entire computer.
