Lebo’s Potts sets mark
Kelsey Potts shattered the Mt. Lebanon course record by 40 seconds as she led the Blue Devils to victory over Chartiers Valley and Upper St. Clair in a section cross country meet.
Potts won the race in 17:22. Last year, she and Jillian Hunsburger clocked an 18:02 to break the 2005 record set by Zaritza Petrova (18:21).
“It was an amazing performance,” said Lebo head coach Oscar Shutt of the run by Potts.
The entire team’s performance was impressive as Lebo took all five spots against the Colts and the Panthers, posting 15-49 and 15-48 victories against their section rivals. USC beat CV, 23-34.
After their showing in the tri-meet, Potts has the Lebo ladies poised to make a run at their third straight WPIAL team championship. The Blue Devils have also placed in the top three during the past PIAA championships. Individually, Potts finished fourth in the state and third in the district during the 2013 finals.
The WPIAL team championships in cross country will be held Oct. 23 at Cooper’s Lake. The PIAA finals are scheduled for Nov. 1 on the Parkview Course in the Hershey Giant Center Complex.
In other cross country action, Bethel Park defeated South Fayette, which won the girls’ Class AA title last year, 23-32, and Canon-McMillan, 15-50.
Karissa Coffied and Dani Hinish finished tops for the Hawks in the section meet.
