Mt. Lebanon High School girls’ basketball coach Dori Oldaker and Upper St. Clair standout Beth Friday Bovey will be inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame’s Western Chapter April 11 at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel at Station Square.

A graduate of Blackhawk High School and Penn State University, Oldaker coached at her alma mater for 12 seasons, compiling a 241-32 record that included two PIAA titles and three WPIAL final appearances with two championships. Oldaker took the position at Mt. Lebanon in 2003. During her tenure, the Blue Devils boast a 239-30 record, complete with four appearances in the state finals coupled with three victories. Under Oldaker, the Lebo ladies advanced to five WPIAL title tilts, winning three banners. A two-time Dapper Dan honoree, Oldaker has garnered many regional and national honors, including her selection to coach the United States 3-on-3 team, which won a gold medal in the World Games last summer.

An Upper St. Clair High School graduate, Bovey won WPIAL titles in soccer and basketball. She led the Lady Panthers to a PIAA basketball title in 1999. An all-state performer in both sports, she earned Almanac MVP and Athlete of the Year honors.

Bovey continued to excel in basketball at Duquesne University. She is the only player in the program’s history to score over 1,000 points and also grab 1,000 rebounds. In addition to having her jersey number retired, Bovey was included in the Atlantic 10 Conference’s first class of basketball legends. Named student athlete of the year, she was inducted into the WPIAL Hall of Fame in 2014.

Another inductee has a connection to USC. At the age of 21, Len Semplice coached the Panthers to a state championship in ice hockey. The South Hills Catholic graduate has coached for 32 years. In addition to skippering in the Ontario Hockey League, he worked for various teams as a minor league and club coach. Plus, he formed and was the commissioner of the Midwest Prep Hockey League. The league’s championship trophy bears his name.

Six additional candidates will be inducted. Among them are: broadcaster Bob Pompeani; Corky Semler, who coached North Allegheny to 599 victories, 22 WPIAL titles and nine state championships in swimming; former Pittsburgh Pirate Omar Moreno; former athletic director Bob Goin; standout basketball coach Abby Bishop and football coach George Webb.

Admission is $50. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. To inquire about ticket availability, call 412-915-3669.
