USC changing ordinances for Wi-fi towers
No one from the public testified, yet Upper St. Clair township officials continued a hearing on Distributed Antennae Systems, or DAS, to May 4. The board of commissioners heard testimony from planning director Scott Brilhart, who said zoning ordinances would need modified to allow the systems to be installed solely on public property.
“The criteria for each installation is conditional use, so any time a carrier wants to install one, they would have to come before this board,” he said.
Brillhart said according to tentative changes in zoning, any antennae would have to be placed on a public right of way or property that is owned by a public school.
In other business, the board approved the next steps for two restaurants, BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, to be built at South Hills Village Mall, and a Dunkin’ Donuts shop to be built at the y-intersection of Bethel Church, Drake and McMurray roads. The board approved the upsizing of BJ’s Restaurant from 5,000 to 7,500 square feet in its amended tentative approval, and approved final land development plans for the Dunkin’ Donuts site.
Bertin Engineering consultant Kevin Pruemer said the developer agreed to pay $4,000 toward a left-turning lane to ease traffic congestion around the Dunkin’ Donuts site. The township also plans to install an upgraded traffic signal at the intersection and construct new in and out roads to the site.
