‘The Whale’

off the WALL productions closes its 2014-15 season with the Pittsburgh premiere of “The Whale,” a big-hearted and fiercely funny story of broken relationships, despair, hope and reconciliation.

Set on the outskirts of Mormon country in Idaho, Charlie is a 600-pound recluse hiding away in his apartment eating himself to death. With his health failing steadily, Charlie is at a decision point: will he live out his life alone, or will he muster the strength and courage to rebuild lost relationships? In a desperate attempt to reconnect with his estranged daughter, Charlie reaches out to her, only to find a viciously sharp-tongued and wildly unhappy teen.

“The Whale” is a compelling and poignant story of a man’s last chance at redemption, and of finding beauty in the most unexpected places.

Written by Samuel D. Hunter, directed by Linda Haston and featuring F.J. Hartland, Abby Quatro, Amy Landis, Brian Knoebel and Dana Hardy, performances take place at 8 p.m. April 30, May 1, 2, 7-9, and 3 p.m. May 3. Tickets are $5-$35.
