‘Next to Normal’

Stage 62 presents “Next to Normal” at the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall in Carnegie, May 7-17. This deeply moving piece of musical theatre explores how one suburban household copes with crisis and mental illness.

Dad’s an architect, Mom rushes to pack lunches and pour cereal, their daughter and son are bright, wise-cracking teens, appearing to be a typical American family. And yet, their lives are anything but normal, because the mother has been battling manic depression for 16 years. “Next to Normal,” starring Nick Black, Cynthia Dougherty, Chad Elder and Kristin Carmella, takes you into the minds and hearts of each character, presenting their family’s story with love, sympathy and heart.

Performances are at 8 p.m. May 7-9 and 14-16, and 2 p.m. May 10 and 17. Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for students and seniors.
