Venetia man charged in alleged road rage incident

A Venetia man is in custody on charges he pointed a handgun at another motorist during an apparent road rage incident April 22 on Interstate 79 in Cecil Township.
State police arrested Brian James Gust, 23, of 131 Meadowbrook Circle on charges of carrying a firearm without a licence, making terroristic threats, simple assault and driving with a suspended or revoked license, court records show.
Police received a report about 4:25 p.m. that a man had pointed a gun at Joshua Scott while the two were driving their vehicles on I-79 south, the affidavit supporting the charges indicates.
Scott later told police he was traveling in the left lane when the suspect’s vehicle passed him and then cut over abruptly before applying the brakes.
Scott said he also hit the brakes. The suspect threw up his arms and Scott made an obscene gesture, changed lanes and continued driving south on I-79, police stated in the affidavit.
Police accuse Gust of pulling alongside Scott’s vehicle, pointing a gun at him and speeding off erratically.
Gust was pulled over by police on Interstate 70 west with a 9mm handgun and ammunition in his vehicle, the record alleges.
He is in Washington County jail on $35,000 bond set by District Judge Larry Hopkins.
