Bruins win title

Three area athletes helped the Western PA Bruins capture the AAU national championship in girls’ basketball. They were: Justina Mascaro from Bethel Park, McKenzie Bushee of Mt. Lebanon and South Fayette’s Carly Kilgus.
Mascaro averaged 15.5 points and seven rebounds per game last winter for the Hawks, who reached the WPIAL Quad-A semifinals and captured a section title. A two-time Almanac all-star, she led BP to a 21-6 record that featured a 17-game winning strak.
Bushee led the Blue Devils in scoring with a 14.5-point average. She also ranked first in rebounding with 7.7 per game. Kilgus directed the offensive attack for the Lions. A noted playmaker, she averaged 12.1 points per game and led South Fayette to the WPIAL Class AAA finals.
While Mascaro is a rising senior, both Bushee and Kilgus are entering their junior year of high school this fall. The trio netted all-section laurels in WPIAL play.
