Mt. Lebanon’s Schierman named Goldey-Beacom coach

Sara Scheirman of Mt. Lebanon has been named Goldey-Beacom College’s new volleyball coach. She replaces Rich Bowers, who resigned to become head coach at North East High School.
Scheirman enters following a two-year run as a graduate assistant coach at Temple, where she helped run the program with duties that included breaking down video, creating itineraries, recruiting, scouting, game-day operations, organizing home tournaments and planning road trips. Her hard work paid off as the Owls amassed a 42-20 record in that span, including a 15-5 mark last season in the American Athletic Conference.
Scheirman also served as an athletic academic advisor intern for Temple. She met with at least three student-athletes once a week to go over their academic reports, developed goals, familiarized herself with NCAA academic rules and served as an academic role model.
Prior to her tenure at Temple, Scheirman served as a coach for the TSEVB camp in California, PA and the Renaissance Volleyball Club in Pittsburgh. She also did a compliance internship at the University of Pittsburgh and attended the 2012 NCAA Career in Sports Forum.
Scheirman competed at Duquesne from 2009-12 and was selected second team All-Atlantic 10 Conference in 2010, Honorable Mention in 2011 and a member of the All-Rookie Team in 2009. The Dukes went 64-34 over her last three seasons, including trips to the A-10 semifinals in 2010 and 2011. She also was co-captain for Duquesne in 2012 and served two years on the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Prior to Duquesne, Scheirman excelled at Mt. Lebanon High School. She led the Blue Devils to the 2007 WPIAL title and a share in two section championships. The three-year starter garnered all-state, all-district and all-section laurels.
Scheirman, who is a luger, graduated Duquesne in 2013 with a B.S. in Business Administration. She earned her Master’s in Sports Business from Temple in 2015.
