Sanders editorial cartoon off the mark

2 min read

The Almanac’s picturing Bernie Sanders campaign as “I’m not Hilary” in the Aug. 19 editorial cartoon is unworthy of publication by a newspaper. Perhaps it should go back to calling itself The Advertiser.

In fact, Sanders is the only candidate that has engaged the issues that concern, or should concern, everyday people about their and their children’s future. He is the only candidate to present an alternative to government of the people by the rich and powerful for the benefit and well being of the rich and powerful.

Sanders is willing to confront the fact that the political classes either are ignorant of or have abandoned the concerns of everyday Americans. It’s the economy, stupid-only this time it’s not a meaningless slogan; it’s for real. Part of the reality is the dim economic future our children face; part of it is that what productive capacity we have left feeds a war machine that sacrifices life and treasure to the profit of a few.

The Republican Party is a bizarre cult unworthy of calling itself a political party; the Democratic Party is in thrall to Wall Street. Sanders presents issues that should be evaluated on their merits or demerits, and The Almanac tosses it aside with a flippant cartoon that has no basis in reality.

The Almanac puts itself forth as a “free” newspaper. If it is this politically clueless it is overpriced.
