Electronics recycling program stops in Peters Township

Beginning Dec. 31, Peters Township no longer will accept electronics, such as televisions and computers, at its public works facility.
Peters’ electronics recycling hauler informed the township Dec. 30 that the company is cancelling the free local program. The township is beginning the process of finding a new electronics recycling hauler with which to contact, but that could take several months and might involve residents paying a small fee when recycling electronic items.
State law prohibits electronics from being put out for curbside garbage or curbside recycling collection. The items must be recycled at state-approved facilities.
Peters Township residents are encouraged to attend the monthly electronics recycling collection events offered by Washington County, to be held from 2 to 5 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month at the county fairgrounds.
