It’ll be the final full closure of the inbound Fort Pitt Tunnel at least for the season as PennDOT crews conduct ceiling removal work Feb. 20-23.

“Beginning at 10 p.m., Feb. 20, the inbound (eastbound) Fort Pitt Tunnel will close to traffic around-the-clock through 6 a.m., Feb. 23 for tunnel ceiling removal work. This will be the final full weekend closure for tunnel ceiling removal work in the inbound tunnel. One full weekend closure in the inbound tunnel will remain for paving work, which will occur in the spring of 2016,” said PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan.

A posted detour will guide motorists to the West End (Exit 69C).

The $14.17 million project includes the removal of the tunnel ceiling, relocation of CCTV cameras and temperature monitors, concrete repair work to the tunnel walls and air duct arch, waterline and standpipe improvements, electrical updates, drainage improvements, reroofing of a portion of the North Portal Building, milling and resurfacing of the bituminous roadway, pavement marking, and other miscellaneous construction.
