Chartiers-Valley School District presents plans to Scott Township officials

By Terry Kish 2 min read

Representatives from the Chartiers Valley School District and from IKM Architects were at the Scott Township Commissioners’ Jan. 13 agenda meeting to present plans for an upcoming building project. The district is anticipating building a new middle school and high school in the near future and renovating the heating and cooling systems in the district’s primary and intermediate schools. The project is still in the concept phase, with bids expected to go out in January 2016.

At the same meeting, township engineer Larry Lennon updated the board on cost estimated to repair the sanitary sewer on Claireview Drive. The estimate to completely replace the sewer line was $95,000, while pipe bursting the line from the current six-inch pipe to accommodate an eight-inch pipe was estimated at $84,000. According to Lennon, both estimates came in higher than expected. A third alternative was to put in manholes at a cost of $10,000 each and do spot repairs on the six inch line.

Scott officials have had complaints about sewers on Claireview since the mid-1970s, when it was discovered that the sewer line was not deep enough to serve at least six of the houses on the street. Instead of correcting the situation, the developers placed a wildcat line to serve the homes, but neglected to notify the home owners of this line.

Board members discussed installing a manhole at the upper end of the sewer line and at the lower end of the line where it attaches to the main line, followed by cleaning and televising the entire line to determine what additional action might need taken. The board is expected to vote on the issue at their Jan. 27 regular meeting.
