Susan Sofayov to hold book signing

Book signing
Mt. Lebanon resident Susan Sofayov will hold a book signing at Rickert & Beagle Books on West Liberty Avenue in Dormont.
Beginning at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2, the author will sign copies of her debut novel, “Defective,” which hit book shelves in late April 2014.
“Defective” is the story of University of Pittsburgh law student Maggie Hovis, who struggles to hold on to her fiancé, her grade point average and her own sanity as she unknowingly struggles with Bipolar II Disorder. It is a brave and ultimately uplifting chronicle of Maggie’s quest to attain the love and achievements her uncooperative brain has long insisted she did not deserve.
“I’m glad to be able to share Defective’s story with a larger audience,” said Sofayov, who herself struggled with undiagnosed Bipolar II for decades before benefitting from treatment. “The goal of starting this dialog was to help young women who may be suffering with a dire obstacle, without even knowing or understanding their own mental experience. If the book inspires anyone to seek help, if it leads someone to recognize her own condition and eventually attain a more normalized, consistent daily existence, then I’ve succeeded.”
