Peters Township keeper ranks among Top 50 in nation
Brittany Hoffman from McMurray ranks among the Top 50 in Division III in two categories in the final 2014 women’s soccer national statistical released by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
The New Jersey City University senior goalkeeper finished the year ranked No. 30 in saves per game (9.07) and 38th in total saves (136). As a team, NJCU ranked 35th in the country among 427 women’s programs in saves per game (9.53).
Hoffman was among the NCAA leaders all season in a number of categories. In the early weeks of the 2014 season, she led the nation in save percentage and goals against average. As a junior in 2013, she was third in the country in saves per game and eighth in total saves on a team that led Division III in saves per game (15.69).
The 5-foot-5, three-year team captain started all 15 games in net for the rebuilding Gothic Knights, playing 1257:33 of a possible 1412:33 in goal, with occasional time as a field player. While facing 305 shots, she made 136 saves and posted a .776 saves percentage with one full shutout – a 1-0 double overtime win at Sarah Lawrence (Sept. 17).
Hoffman also shared two other shutout wins, playing the first 45 minutes in a 3-0 win over John Jay on Aug. 20 and 45 minutes on Sept. 8 in a 13-0 rout of Medgar Evers.
Hoffman reached double figures in saves in six games in 2014 with a high of 20 stops in a loss to nationally ranked and eventual NJAC champion Montclair State. For her career, Hoffman reached double figures in saves in 26 games. She recorded at least 20 stops in a game seven times-all during her junior and senior seasons.
In the difficult NJAC, she finished her senior season leading the conference in both saves and saves per game (9.00) for the third year in a row while listing eighth in save percentage and 13th in shutouts.
Hoffman, who owns a 3.85 GPA while studying fire science on a full Presidential academic scholarship, ends her Gothic Knight career as NJCU’s all-time leader in games and starts, second in wins, saves, shutouts and goalie minutes played, and fourth in save percentage. In 67 games (all starts) she made 587 saves and held a .782 save percentage with a 23-38-3 record and 11 shutouts. While facing 1,027 shots, she had a 2.53 goals against average (164 goals).
