Upper St. Clair approves plans for BJ’s Brewhouse

BJ’s Restaurant & Brew House will be the newest addition at South Hills Village Mall, as Upper St. Clair Township board of commissioners gave final approval of the project at their July 6 regular meeting. The vote was 6-0, with board president Bob Orchowski absent.
During their June 1 regular meeting, the board tabled plans for the 7500 square-foot stand-alone restaurant to be built in the mall’s parking lot near Bonefish Grill, Jared Galleria of Jewelry and PNC Bank due to concerns about traffic flow patterns. The approved plans include revised parking with one-way angled parking in the front of the building.
At the same meeting, the board voted 6-0 to continue to August 3, 2015 a public hearing for a planned CVS Pharmacy at the corner of Ft. Couch and Washington Road. The board also voted to accept and grant a 39-day extension request for the project.
A presentation of plans for the proposed CVS store is expected to occur at the board’s August 3 regular meeting.
Commissioner Mark Christie reported that the 2016 budget planning process had started, beginning with a review of the May financial sheet and a preliminary review of the five-year capital improvement plan. He said the process would continue until the fall, with a final budget presentation expected in November or December.
Christie said that most of the planned capital expenditures for 2016 are for equipment replacement, including purchasing a new fire truck.
Commenting on the capital improvement plans, board vice-president Russell Del Re commended the township staff on what was happening in the municipality.
“We get a lot for our tax dollar here,” said Del Re. “Keep up the good work.”
In other business, the board voted 6-0 to approve contracts for janitorial and cleaning services. Clean Net USA received the contract to clean the municipal building, public works building, and the fire station for $72,000 a year, and Martins Maintenance received the contract to clean the C&RC and The Outdoor Classroom for $214,209 a year. Both contracts are for 36 months.
