Man arrested after driving onto St. Clair Hospital helipad

A 50-year-old Georgia man nearly drove a stolen car into a helicopter that was preparing to take off from St. Clair Hospital June 12 with a newborn infant on board.
Mt. Lebanon Police said Eric Logan, of Athens, Ga., was suffering a mental episode as he drove erratically at high speed, evading parking cars and ultimately stopping inches short of the idling helicopter. Logan then exited his vehicle and ran toward the pilot, who shut down the engine. Logan had allegedly hit another vehicle on Bower Hill Road before leaving the accident scene and driving onto the hospital campus. St. Clair security detained Logan until police arrived.
“Due to erratic statements made by the driver at the scene, officers secured a warrant authorizing an involuntary mental health commitment for the driver,” police Chief Aaron Lauth said.
Peters Township police Captain Michael Yanchak said Logan stole a sedan as the owner of the vehicle stopped in the Sun Chevrolet car dealership in McMurray to inquire about purchasing a car. Logan allegedly hopped in the driver’s seat when the owner left the car in front of the dealership. Yanchak said no one is pressing charges against Logan in that incident.
Logan, however, faces charges including risking a catastrophe, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, driving without a license and resisting arrest.
