Celebrate all things penguin at the National Aviary

Penguins! Penguins! Penguins!
Throughout the month of August and into September, the National Aviary will celebrate penguins with various penguin-related events.
On Aug. 1, enjoy special access to the Aviary one hour before it opens to the public, when the birds are especially active, for an hour of private encounters with the picturesque and fun African penguins. The Penguin Photo Safari runs 9-11 a.m. Cost is $50 per person (does not include general admission). Preregistration is required at least one day in advance by calling 412-258-9439. Space is limited.
A Penguin Painting Program will take place at 3 p.m. Aug. 9. African penguins will paint with their feet, giving guests the chance to take home an artistic masterpiece. Guests will have an opportunity to choose colors for their painting and watch the artist work. Each guest will receive an 11″x14″ canvas. Cost is $40 for members, $55 for non-members (includes general admission). Same-day registration is $40 and does not include general admission. Call 412-258-9445 to register.
Penguins and Pajamas takes place 5-9 p.m. Aug. 13, featuring movies and penguin meet-and-greets for the whole family.
On Aug. 15 and 16, a Penguin Pool Party will take place from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. See the birds playing with rubber ducks launched into the penguin pool by National Aviary visitors. Be prepared to get wet. Included with general admission.
