School lunch prices rising in South Fayette

South Fayette students will be paying more for lunch when school resumes this fall.
After hearing recommendations from food service director Tricia Wood at the July 21 meeting, school board members voted unanimously to raise lunch prices. At the elementary level, prices will increase by 10 cents, bringing the new price for a regular meal to $2.10, premium tier 1 meal to $2.50, and premium tier 2 meal to $2.65. For all other district schools, the price of a regular meal will increase 10 cents to $2.30, and the premium tier 1 meal will be $2.60, also a 10-cent increase. The premium tier 2 meal will increase 15 cents to $2.80.
The board also authorized the issuance of general obligation bonds, Series A of 2015, and Series AA of 2015 for the purpose of refunding all or a portion of the district’s outstanding general obligation bonds, Series of 2010, and paying a portion of the costs of the design, acquisition, and construction of improvements and renovations to the district’s high school.
The board is planning to expand the district’s high school to accommodate the increasing student population.
South Fayette Superintendent Dr. Billie P. Rondinelli told the board that when school ended in June, there were 2,885 students enrolled in the district. Enrollment has increased to 2,942, with 73 student enrollment packets outstanding. Rondinelli said that if all the packets are returned, enrollment at the start of the school year could be 3,015.
