Upper St. Clair prepping for winter

While winter is still several months away, Upper St. Clair officials are preparing for when the snow eventually returns.
Assistant township manager Mark Mansfield reported at the Upper St. Clair Board of Commissioners July 27 meeting that the price the township would pay for rock salt this year will be significantly less than last year.
Mansfield said that the lowest bid that SHACOG received for rock salt came from Cargill, Inc., at $69.29 a ton, $10 a ton less than last year. Mansfield said that the township typically uses about 6,500 tons of salt each year, which should result in a $65,000 savings.
In other business, the board voted 5-0 to establish a public hearing date on Sept. 8 for conditional use approval for a distributed antenna system on an existing pole located at 127 McMurray Road. Commissioners Orchowski and Paoly were absent from the meeting.
