Weapons policy needs to be changed
The fact that flags are waving at half-mast last week caused me to look into the reason a little more. After reading the various reports about the tragic shooting deaths which occurred at a recruiting center in Chattanooga, Tenn., I was shocked to learn that military personnel are not permitted to be armed at recruiting stations. I was completely unaware of this fact. Reasons given for this policy seem to indicate the presence of weapons at recruiting stations might project an “unwelcome image” in the communities where they are located.
Really?
Nothing would be more welcoming to me than seeing U.S. military officers and soldiers being armed in a defensive manner. I see police officers every day in public places with their weapons attached to their uniforms and that is certainly not an “unwelcome” image. It makes me feel much more secure to know that responsible, trained individuals are nearby, should there be someone wanting to do harm to me or others around me. This government policy needs to be changed immediately, in my opinion.
