Mt. Lebanon’s Wuenschell productive

Corey Wuenschell of Mt. Lebanon completed another productive season for the Vassar College baseball team. For the Brewers, the 5-9, 170-pound rising senior played behind the dish and served as a designated hitter.

As a catcher, he had 66 putouts and 11 assists. He committed no errors and ranked among the leaders in the Liberty League with a perfect fielding percentage. Additionally, he threw out five of the nine runners that attempted to steal on him.

At the plate, Wuenschell batted .274 with eight doubles and a triple for the Brewers, who won their last four games to finish 11-17 overall. Wuenschell scored 12 and drove in 14 runs. He finished the season strong with a 2-for-3 showing against CCNY. He doubled, tripled and drove in three runs.

Off the diamond, Wuenschell earned All-Academic honors in the league for maintaining a GPA over 3.2. He is an economics major. This summer, he is interning in the financial district in New York City, working as an anlyst for a consulting company. He has also interned at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management in Pittsburgh. Wuenschell has won first place awards for Personal Finance and Emergin Business Issues during regional competitions for the Future Business Leaders of America organization.

The son of Edward and Kimberlee Wuenschell lettered three years in baseball, playing for Mt. Lebanon manager Patt McCloskey. His teams reached the WPIAL championship game and were PIAA quarterfinalists in 2012. He gained Almanac Diamond Dozen honorable mention recognition. In addition to baseball, he played one season of football and ice hockey at Mt. Lebanon.
