Chad Vomer, son of Rock and Denise Vomer of Bethel Park, was named to the fall dean’s list at Duquesne University’s School of Pharmacy. A freshman, he was also named to the Duquesne Director’s Circle and Phi Eta Sigma Freshman Honor Society.
Trevor Walter, son of Doris and James Walter of Bethel Park, was named to the fall dean’s list at Gettysburg College. Trevor earned the commendation while studying abroad at Heidelberg University in Heidelberg, Germany, where he carried a full-course load with all classes taught in the German language. A 2012 graduate of Bethel Park High School, Trevor is a German studies and international affairs dual major.
Caroline Grunewald, a senior comparative literature major at Hamilton College, has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) to Germany. She studied abroad at Universität Tübingen, in Tübingen, Germany in 2014 though Tufts Study Abroad Program. A deans list student, Grunewald is a teaching assistant in Hamilton’s German Department. She is acoustic coordinator for the Hamilton Campus Activities Board, where she manages the budget, book musicians, negotiates contracts and organizes and runs four acoustic concerts per semester. While studying in Germany, Grunewald volunteered as an English teaching assistant at a German primary school. She also served as a research and editorial assistant in the Hamilton’s Comparative Literature Department. Since 2011 she has been a volunteer ski instructor at Double H Ranch in Lake Luzerne, teaching children with cognitive and physical disabilities. Grunewald is the daughter of Martha and William Grunewald of Pittsburgh and a graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School.
Melissa Pintar, daughter of Timothy and Sharon Pintar of Venetia, received the Freshman Certificate award at the first Youngstown State University Honors College Recognition Ceremony this spring. Pintar is majoring in coordinated program dietetics at YSU.
Michaela Lies, a graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School, has been selected for induction into Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society at Washington & Jefferson College. A senior, she is a Spanish and international business major and a gender and women’s studies minor. She is active in the W&J theatre community and a member of the W&J Student Activities Board.
Carley Adams, a graduate of Peters Township High School, has been selected for induction into Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society at Washington & Jefferson College. A senior communication arts major, she is active in the Red & Black Student Newspaper, WNJR radio station and W&J theatre. She is a 2015 recipient of the Scholar in Communication Arts Award, The Jennifer Lynn Oliver Prize in Theatre, The Robert Harbison Bible Prize and The Coblentz-Silliman Leadership Prize.
Joshua Tropp, an Upper St. Clair High School graduate, has been selected for induction into Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society at Washington & Jefferson College. The senior chemistry major is a 2015 recipient of The Jesse W. Lazear Prize in Chemistry and The Samuel Jones Prize in Chemistry and Physics.
Megan Crawford, a Bethel Park High School graduate, has been selected for induction into Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society at Washington & Jefferson College. A senior German major, she is an active member of the W&J Student Activities Board. Megan is the 2015 recipient of The J. Adolph Schmitz Prize in Language.
Sierra Miller, daughter of Craig and Lisa Miller of Mt. Lebanon, was named to the spring dean’s list at the University of Evansville with a 4.0 GPA. The pre-physical therapy major is an undergraduate representative of the Physical Therapy Club, and a member of the Honors Program and Exercise Science Club. Sierra is a 2013 graduate of Chartiers Valley High School.
Robert Poling Jr., a 2015 graduate of Westminster College with a degree in business administration, successfully co-managed a Capstone project team that placed 18th among 3,025 teams from 204 colleges and universities in a worldwide online National Business Strategy competition. Robert is a 2011 graduate of Upper St. Clair High School.
James Szewczyk Jr. of Bethel Park was awarded a BA in politics with honors, summa cum laude, at the University of the South’s 2015 commencement ceremonies held on the Sewanee campus May 10. He received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Medallion for character, leadership and service to the university and the Sewanee community–the university’s highest award. Szewczyk also received the E.G. Richmond Prize for achievement in social sciences, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society. Earlier this year, Szewczyk published a paper in the online Columbia University Journal of Politics and Society. He will join the Ph.D. program in political science at Emory University in the fall. Szewczyk is the child of Sheila and James J. Szewczyk.
(PIX) Ryan Saul, son of Annette and Greg Saul of Upper St. Clair, graduated magna cum laude from the University of Dayton with a criminal justice degree and a minor in social work. The Upper St. Clair High School graduate is employed by Saving Grace Ministries in Dayton, Ohio.
Connor Crane, son of Jeff and Susan Crane of Peters Township, was named to The Pennsylvania State University dean’s list for the spring semester. He is a business-supply chain major.
Megan Crawford of Bethel Park graduated from Washington & Jefferson College with a bachelor of arts degree in German. She was an active member of the Student Activities Board, co-founder of W&Jbirds, Phi Beta Kappa and Delta Phi Alpha. Megan plans to attend graduate school.
Ashley Stadtfeld of Canonsburg graduated from Washington & Jefferson College with a bachelor of arts degree in child development and education. She was an active member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Kappa Delta Epsilon Education Honor Society, dance team, Student Government Association, and was a resident assistant. Ashley hopes to teach elementary Pre-K or Pre-K-8 special education.
Josh Tropp of Upper St. Clair graduate from Washington & Jefferson College with a bachelor of arts degree in ACS chemistry. He was an active member of the rugby team, Alpha Tao Omega Fraternity, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Gamma Sigma Epsilon, Gamma Sigma Alpha, Phi Sigma, Alpha Phi Omega, Order of Omega, Phi Beta Kappa, and the Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society. Josh plans to attend medical school.
Christine Dee of Venetia graduated from Washington & Jefferson College with a bachelor of arts degree in cell & molecular biology. She plans to attend medical school at the Commonwealth Medical College.
Chelsea Wise of Upper St. Clair graduated from Washington & Jefferson College with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and Spanish. She was an active member of the Student Government Association, Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, Green Club, and was the Yoga Club founder.
Samantha Rodriguez of Upper St. Clair was named to Susquehanna University’s dean’s list for the spring semester. A junior secondary education-mathmatics major, she is a graduate of Upper St. Clair High School and the daughter of Ron and Kathy Rodriguez.
Kristina King, daughter of Cathy and Paul King of Upper St. Clair, was recently awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to Germany for 2015-2016. The grant is for an English teaching assistantship in the city of Hamburg. She was selected based on her academic and professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership potential. A 2010 graduate of Upper St. Clair High School and a 2014 summa cum laude and Phi Beta Cappa graduate of Boston University with a degree in international relations and a minor in German. she is currently pursuing a masters degree in public health at Boston University.
