Police Beat: Week of July 1
Bethel Park
Drug violations: Police received a call saying a driver struck a vehicle in the parking lot of GetGo on Library Road June 22 and left the scene. The driver of the vehicle was Joshua Shaffer, 29, of Bethel Park. Police said Shaffer has been charged with numerous traffic violations and possessing a small amount of marijuana.
Retail theft: John Kennedy, 46, of Pittsburgh, and David Witherspoon, 48, of Pittsburgh, were charged June 24 with retail theft from Kohl’s department store. According to reports, the men placed a large amount of merchandise in a bag and attempted to leave the store without paying.
Retail theft: Police said the Giant Eagle Market District loss prevention officer asked for assistance June 26 with three male shoplifters. Justin Marish, 28, of Belle Vernon; Brandon Thomas, 41, of Pittsburgh; and Kristopher Brooks, 34, of McMurray; were reported to be taking merchandise out various store exits. They were taken into custody.
Cecil Township
Machinery taken: MEI McCutcheon Enterprises Inc., 101 West Pike St., Houston, said a Magnum, 6-inch track pump valued at $17,850 and an Ingersoll Rand air compressor valued at $12,511 were taken June 24 from Curry Hill Road, behind the old PennDOT storage shed. The incident remains under investigation.
Peters Township
Reckless driving: Police were called June 20 to the intersection of East McMurray and Thompsonville roads where they found a driver passed out in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, which was facing oncoming traffic. According to reports, police awoke the man, Justin Godard, 34, of Brookwood Road, Venetia, and smelled a strong odor of alcohol on him. Godard failed a field sobriety test. He was charged with DUI at the highest rate and DUI, incapable of safe driving.
Warrant arrest: Police stopped Kelly Denarrius Smith, 44, of Willow St., Bethel Park, June 21 in the 500 block of Bebout Road in Venetia for driving with an expired inspection sticker. Smith gave police a Pennsylvania ID card and an Oklahoma driver’s license. According to reports, when police checked to see if the Oklahoma license was valid, they discovered Smith had an outstanding warrant from West Mifflin.
Two-vehicle accident: A pickup truck driven by Mitchell T. Marty, 48, of Cedarhill Drive, McMurray, took a turn too wide June 23 at the intersection of Heritage Meadows Drive and Cedarhill Drive in McMurray, and struck a car driven by Lisa M. Morgan, 22, of Brownsville Road, Library. Morgan was taken to St. Clair Hospital by her parents for back pain.
Retail theft: A male and a female walked out of Kmart, 4041 Washington Road, June 23 with a 32-inch television valued at $230 and a microwave valued at $108. The incident remains under investigation.
Purse taken: A tan, leather Coach purse was taken June 23 from an unlocked car parked in the driveway of a Gateshead Drive home in McMurray. The incident is under investigation.
Toilet vandalized: Someone knocked over the toilet at the Linnwood Avenue, McMurray, parking lot at the Montour Trail June 24, police said. This is the second time the toilet has been knocked over in recent weeks.
Mailbox dented: A resident of Fox Run Drive in Venetia told police June 24 that someone dented her mailbox and stuffed it full of mulch. Police said the mailbox has been vandalized the same way on several other occasions.
Criminal mischief: A resident of the 100 block of West Edgewood Drive, McMurray, told police June 28 that someone dented his mailbox with a blunt object, knocking it to the ground.
Retail theft: A young, black male in his early 20s walked into the Verizon store, 4120 Washington Road, June 27, looked at some items and left the store with an iPhone 6 valued at $850.
South Fayette
Multiple misdemeanors: Police arrested Brett Brumbaugh, 18, June 25, following a foot chase that ended at Hickory Heights Golf Club in Bridgeville. Police charged Brumbaugh with resisting arrest, loitering and prowling at night time, according to reports.
Castle Shannon
Public drunkenness: Police cited Gabrielle Kudrik, 22, of 120 Kline Ave., North Versailles, June 20 for public drunkenness in the 3800 block of Library Road.
