Dormont manager sidesteps alleged firing by resigning
Jeff Naftal’s resignation has made him the 10th borough manager Dormont has had in 11 years. Dormont’s council accepted Naftal’s resignation letter at its March 2 meeting, which read in part, “It is my understanding that if I do not resign that I will be terminated.”
Solicitor John Rushford said council approved hiring a law firm and a computer forensics company to investigate Naftal. Bit-x-Bit, LLC and Strassburger, McKenna, Gutnick & Gefsky were the firms hired to investigate electronic records and other personnel documents.
Council voted to have Rebecca Bradley, the township manager in Wilkins, to work part-time as the interim manager. A borough official said she would only be in on Fridays until further notice.
Naftal had replaced the previous manager, Gino Rizza, who resigned in February 2012 after an ongoing dispute with police and the mayor about the manager’s role overseeing the police department, according to Rushford.
Rushford said nothing was on the March 2 agenda concerning Naftal’s resignation or otherwise. Hired in July 2012, Naftal previously worked as a deputy county administrator in Lancaster County, South Carolina.
Naftal could not be reached for comment.
