Bishop Canevin falls to Cathedral Prep
There will be a new hockey champion in Class AA. Cathedral Prep saw to that when the Ramblers knocked off Bishop Canevin, 8-2, in the semifinals of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League playoffs.
As soon as the Ramblers hit the ice at the RMU Island Sports Complex, they found the nets, scoring four times in the first period. Though the Crusaders answered twice, their defense again surrendered four goals in the third period.
Ben Eliason initiated Prep’s attack 48 seconds into the game. William Kelly, Nick Trageser and Trevor Faulkner tacked on first-period goals.
Richard Vicary collected two scores in the third period. Dillion Elliott added the seventh goal and Eliason ended what he began, picking up his second tally at the 16:32 mark.
For the Crusaders, Jacob Ondrejko and Kaden Kelly scored goals within a four-minute span in the first frame, knotting the contest, 2-2. Blaine Adams and Jacob Melisko assisted the tallies that came at 3:03 and 7:23 in the period.
Prep fired off 27 shots against Neko Borghini. The Ramblers racked up three power-play goals. Canevin managed 18 shots on goal against Jacob Kucharski.
Cathedral Prep will be playing for its first Penguins Cup championship since 1997. The Class AA game will be played at 5 p.m. March 14 at the Consol Energy Center.
