Pittsburgh Piano Teachers Association will hold its 15th Annual College Scholarship Winners Recital at 3 p.m. May 31 at Steinway Piano Gallery, located on South Main Street in West End Village. The recital will feature this year’s scholarship winners as well as returning graduates who were previous winners. Repertoire will include Mussourgsky, Rachmaninoff, Debussy, Mendelssohn, Poulenc, Puccini and Cangelosi.

The program is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.

Scholarships are given to students of PPTA members who study piano as a college music major or minor. Each year, a graduating high school senior can win a $1,000 award presented by Steinway Gallery Pittsburgh and previous winners who continue in piano receive increasing amounts from PPTA.

This year’s winners, from Natrona Heights and Baldwin, were awarded $6,000 and $4,000 respectively, but previous winners who will be performing are local. They include: Ted Evangelista of Upper St. Clair, a student at Boston University, and Alvin Zhu of Mt. Lebanon, a student at The Julliard School and Yale University. In the past 15 years, PPTA has given nearly $100,000 to 20 piano students.
