‘The Decline of Western Civilization’
The historic Hollywood Theater in Dormont announces a visit from acclaimed director Penelope Spheeris, who will present her landmark documentary film trilogy “The Decline of Western Civilization Parts I-III,” Nov. 6-7. The recently digitally remastered documentary is touring art house theaters around the country.
The Decline of Western Civilization Part I, which covers the early punk scene, is considered by many film critics as one of the best music documentaries ever made. Part II, released in 1988 and subtitled “The Metal Years,” takes an ironic approach to the heyday of hair metal. Part III, which premiered in 1998 but never received a proper release, focuses on homeless street kids known as gutterpunks.
On Nov. 6, “The Decline of Western Civilization – Part I” will be shown at 8 p.m. followed by Part III at 10. A Q&A will be held at the end. Doors open at 7. Tickets at $12 for all seats are available at www.showclix.com/event/Decline1and2.
