Broadway Classics and More
Leon S. Zionts, who has starred for more than two decades in musicals such as “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Ragtime,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Cabaret,” “Little Shop of Horrors” and the comic operettas of “Gilbert and Sullivan,” will present his new one-man show, Leon Zionts Sings Broadway Classics and More, 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at Congregation Ahavath Achim, the Carnegie Shul, in Carnegie.
Zionts, who has starred in numerous productions at Carnegie’s Stage 62, and with the Pittsburgh Savoyards, the Undercroft Opera Company, and The Jewish Theater of Pittsburgh, among many other local companies, will be performing many popular Broadway standards, with some Sinatra, Gershwin and other classics from the last century thrown in.
Zionts, who is also a commercial real estate attorney and partner in the Pittsburgh law firm of Citron Alex & Zionts PC, is well known to local audiences for his acclaimed portrayal of Tevye the Dairyman in the Stage 62 and CCAC South Campus productions of “Fiddler on the Roof.” He and his partners, Bruce Smith and Nancy Zionts as Front Porch Theatricals, have produced “The Light in the Piazza,” “The Last Five Years,” “Parade,” “In the Heights” and “Next to Normal” to great acclaim at the New Hazlett Theater.
The performance, which is free and open to the public, is being hosted by Congregation Ahavath Achim, the Carnegie Shul, and is being funded by a grant from South Hills Jewish Pittsburgh, a project of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh.
