Scott Township commissioners authorize a number of purchases

Scott Township Commissioners dealt with many housekeeping issues at the regular meeting on Oct. 27.
A total of $1,410,660.76 was authorized to be disbursed from the general fund for the township’s bill list. Commissioners also approved partial payment for several sewer repairs totaling $361,414.09 and four contracts for the purchase of equipment at the new pool in the amount of $186,947.50.
A motion was passed to continue providing police services to Rosslyn Farms for the next two years. The township will receive $57,120 in 2016 and $58,262 in 2017. Payments for both years represent a 3 percent increase from the previous year.
Commissioners approved $4,870 to repair a fire truck, previously designated to be sold. The fire department is expecting to receive a new truck in February, prompting commissioner William Wells to ask what the truck was worth once repaired. Wells stated, “I’d hate to throw good money away if the truck isn’t worth it.” Commission President David Jason agreed, asking if the township could expect $80,000.
Fire Chief Frank Salerno Jr. was unable to estimate what the truck was worth, but explained it had to be fixed to be sold. Once repaired, the department has been tasked with finding a buyer for the truck.
Commissioners also presented Ralph Murovich a proclamation recognizing his contribution to the township. Murovich, a long time member of the planning commission before resigning earlier this year, called his time on the commission “The most pleasant experience of my life. Scott Township is the most wonderful South Hills community.”
