A lesson in civility

Civility. In the 1983 Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate dictionary, civility is listed as 1: archaic: training in the humanities. 2a: courtesy, politeness b: a polite act or expression.
As the Peters Township teachers strike continues and I hear the South Hills YMCA is offering all day activities for the children, I feel compelled to put pen to paper. I understand that by law the Peters Township teachers can strike for 21 days and not teach our children until right before Thanksgiving, but is this the civil thing to do?
Who wins as college educated individuals picket and stand in the rain? Who wins as children’s educations are disrupted?
Just because the law says you can strike, is it the right thing to do?
Please return to your positions as educators of future generations. Please mediate, mediate and mediate until both sides come to an agreement. Show that character does count in Peters Township and that bitter work stoppages are not the civil thing to do.
