Guy Reschenthaler was sworn in to office as the state senator representing the 37th Senatorial District in Allegheny and Washington counties during a ceremony Tuesday in Harrisburg.

Reschenthaler, R-Jefferson Hills, was joined by about 40 friends and family members.

U.S. Circuit Judge D. Michael Fisher, an Upper St. Clair resident who represented the 37th District seat for 16 years in the 1980s and ’90s, administered the oath.

“I’m honored and excited to take on this new challenge and be a responsive, accountable and tireless advocate for our community,” Reschenthaler said.

He served in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General Corps, volunteering for service in Iraq. He worked in private practice at a multistate law firm in Mt. Lebanon and was elected district judge for Pleasant Hills, Jefferson Hills and South Park, a position he resigned prior to running for the Senate.
