Galleria of Mt. Lebanon Fall Art Show
Oct. 9-18
Fall art show
The Galleria of Mt. Lebanon will host a Fall Art Show Oct. 9-18. An opening reception is planned for 7 p.m. Oct. 10.
One of the featured exhibitions at the Fall Art Show is by Hasidic pop artist Rabbi Yitzchok Moully. His silk-screen printing allows him to print brilliantly colored images in a style he calls Hasidic pop art, which he feels dispels the image that the Hasidic lifestyle is rigid- which is why he wears orange socks, as depicted in one of his paintings. Shabbat candlesticks, for example, which can be handed down generations in a family, share a canvas with a Zippo lighter. A Kiddush cup is next to a martini glass; a Torah next to an e-reader.
On Oct. 14, the public is invited to a free wine and cheese reception at 7 p.m., where Rabbi Moully will lead an inspiring discussion about his work and how it relates to his spirituality and religion. His appearance and the exhibition are co-sponsored by the SteelTree fund on behalf of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh.
Children ages 3-12 are invited to participate in the art event by attending a fun and creative workshop with local artist Judy Spahr, 4:15-5 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Galleria Mall.
