Hunting in park focus of Mt. Lebanon meeting with Scott

Mt. Lebanon and Scott Township officials have met to discuss hunting in Twin Hills Trails Park.
An informational meeting occurred Oct. 14 between staff members and solicitors for each municipality, addressing the legal action taken by Scott to halt Mt. Lebanon’s archery program in the park as a means of reducing the local whitetail deer population.
Allegheny County Judge Michael McCarthy granted an injunction Oct. 5, with an order for representatives of the two municipalities to meet and also to have present someone from White Buffalo Inc., the organization that has been contracted to assist with the archery hunt.
Twin Hills Trails has been owned for more than two decades by Mt. Lebanon, but the 25-acre park is located within Scott. It is one of three municipal parks designated by Mt. Lebanon for the archery program to take place, along with McNeilly and Robb Hollow.
Susan Morgans, municipal spokeswoman, said that Mt. Lebanon officials explained the deer management program to their Scott counterparts, including how it is managed, how hunters are recruited, and the times and locations where hunting is to take place.
Another meeting is scheduled for Nov. 2 at a time and place to be determined, she said.
