With the 285 Peters Township School District teachers on strike, some district-wide activities at the five schools will continue and some will not.

Athletic events will go on as planned. This means the football game scheduled Oct. 30 against Pine Richland will take place as scheduled, the district said.

There will be help available to high school seniors with college applications, as well as Naviance – college readiness – software, the district said. The district will also make every effort to keep Peters Township High School graduation day – June 10, 2016 – set as planned.

Those students who attend Western Area Career and Technology Center will not be affected. Classes will continue as usual. In addition, transportation will continue to be provided for students who attend private, parochial or schools located outside the district.

“The district supports the continuation of all clubs and activities for our students,” said Superintendent Jeannine French. “Individual club sponsors and coaches will be reaching our to their students regarding their plans.”

Activities not associated with athletics, such as field trips, will be cancelled during the duration of the work stoppage. PTA events and activities will be held at the discretion of that group, the district said.

If a child receives special education from the district, that will stop during a strike. If the strike lasts longer than 10 days, the effect on each child will be evaluated on an individual basis. The same holds true for the student who is enrolled in the district’s gifted education program.

Extended Day Services child care will continue to operate during the strike. And lastly, renovation work will continue at McMurray Elementary School.
